Learning Gratitude.

Like any other person who aspires to have a blog of their own, I wanted to kick off on a positive, charming note. Amongst many, one of my initial ideas was GRATITUDE. Gratitude is something we are taught to have from amongst our very first words. One of the famous magic words, 'Thank you' is a good example of how gratitude is taught to us in response to any action that shows that the other person cares about us. Even things as simple as being handed a pencil.

As we grow older, we are told to express gratitude towards our parents, elders, teachers, friends, siblings, the earth, God, authoritative figures and many other people. This is to ingrain in us that what we have is a gift of others, and that is something to be thankful about.

However, now that I think about gratitude, I wonder why was it so restrained? Why was it our default reaction? Gratitude should be felt freely towards all those people who are the building blocks of YOU. Even yourself. Even the random person who smiled at you on the street, or the singer whose voice you keep humming in your head. It is not something to be taught through mannerism and moral science lectures, but something you learn while growing as human beings.
